Markers in Pro Tools (formally called Memory Locations) are essential for navigating long sessions and labeling song sections. They are primarily created using the numeric keypad.
- 1.Place the playback cursor at the desired spot on the timeline and press Enter on the numeric keypad (or Fn+Enter on some laptops).
- 2.Type a name for the marker in the 'New Memory Location' dialog box that appears and select 'Marker' as the time property.
- 3.To add a marker on the fly during recording or playback, simply hit the Enter key on the numeric keypad at the exact moment you want the marker placed.
- 4.Recall a marker quickly by typing a period (.), then the marker number, then period (.) again on the numeric keypad.
- ×Markers are tied to specific timebase settings; if you move audio but your markers are set to 'Absolute' time instead of 'Bars|Beat', they will no longer align with your song sections.
- ×If you don't have a numeric keypad, you must click the '+' icon on the Markers Ruler at the top of the Edit window.
Use the 'Memory Locations' window (Command+5 on the Numpad or Window > Memory Locations) to see a full list of markers. You can click any marker in this list to instantly jump to that point in the timeline.
